Conference Program

Saitama Session(March 26, 2010):
Digitization, Globalization, Interdisciplinarity

Introduction:
The Saitama Session will feature paper presentations from the participants listed below. Each presentation will be 20 minutes in length, followed by 10 minutes for discussion. The attendees listed are those who have confirmed their participation (the order of the presentations will be posted here at the beginning of February 2010). After lunch, there will be a special presentation on classical Japanese literature, during which scholars of the subject will introduce you to Kohitsugire(fragments of ancient manuscripts).

Tokyo Session(March 27, 2010):
Future of Books, Future of Literary Studies

(Simultaneous interpreters will be provided)

Introduction:
In the Tokyo Session, there will be keynote speeches by Peter Shillingsburg (Loyola University) and Dirk Van Hulle (University of Antwerp). Bodo Plachta (Free University of Amsterdam) will unfortunately not be able to attend as planned, but in accordance with his wishes, his paper will be presented on his behalf. After the keynote speeches, we plan to have a lively discussion amongst the Western and Japanese scholars.

March 27, 2010 Printing Museum, Tokyo (Gutenberg Room)[Local Map]

Additional information:
・For those who are interested, the Printing Museum will be open for you to explore during the morning (admission will be waived for presenters in the Saitama Session). The exhibition guide is here.
・The restaurant at the Printing Museum has already been reserved by another party and is therefore not available. There are also no restaurants located in the immediate vicinity of the museum. It may therefore be advisable to prepare something for lunch in advance. A light meal and snacks will be provided for you.
